African Schools Debate Competition 2026

In 2026, DebateChamps competed at the African Schools Debate Championship (ASDC), one of the continent’s competitive platforms for school debaters.

DebateChamps entered four teams into the competition, which brought together 33 teams from across Africa, including teams from Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Rwanda, South Sudan, South Africa, Cameroon, Botswana and Egypt.

Our students competed through the preliminary rounds and progressed into the elimination stages. One DebateChamps team went on to win the 2026 African Schools Debate Championship, bringing the title home.

The competition also produced strong individual performances. Two DebateChamps students were recognised among the top speakers, finishing as the 5th and 7th Best Speakers of the competition.

Our representation extended beyond competing students. A DebateChamps-registered adjudicator progressed through the judging rounds and was selected to serve on the Semifinal judging panel.

The ASDC result reflects the importance of consistent training, experienced coaching and opportunities for students to compete against strong debaters from different countries.

For DebateChamps, the championship is an important milestone in our commitment to developing young Nigerian debaters and creating opportunities for them to compete and grow on the African and international debate stage.
